I will have to ask my wife on a good day. I’m hoping she would say: relaxed, energetic, & fun!

What do you do at Mulberry Asset Finance?

I work with all our customers on an ongoing basis to help them access the most competitive asset finance. I liaise closely with a fantastic panel of highly reputable funders who are keen to assist SME's in financing all kinds of assets.  Despite Brexit, we are now starting to expand, and we are recruiting and training an excellent team of people at Mulberry who have expertise in the various sectors in which we operate.

What is the main issue that your clients have that you would like to fix?  

Our customers work extremely hard building their businesses, but all too often they don't receive the necessary financial support and advice to help them consolidate and grow.  SME's do not normally have a designated Financial Controller and therefore the owners can get side tracked into a lengthy process of trying to obtain finance. Mulberry Asset Finance work closely with them to arrange finance on their behalf, saving them time and money.

What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job?   

Hard work, honesty and transparency.

What do you like about working at Mulberry Asset Finance.  

I love the freedom and the fact that we can really make a difference.  I just love working in Cumbria, the landscape, the creativity, there are some truly fantastic businesses across the industry sectors. I love meeting all the owners and operators throughout the County who have a real passion for their business. If I can take all the pressure of them by arranging their asset finance, then that's just great!

What are the values that drive you?

I think trust, honesty, integrity and loyalty are vital not only in business, but in life. My strong Christian faith has given me a solid base on which to build my life and despite many ups and downs along the way, I am still smiling and loving life!

What are you happiest doing, when you're not working?

Walking in the Lakes with my lovely wife, followed by a nice lunch and a pint. Going to watch Leeds United, I have been a supporter for 50 years & am a season ticket holder. Following Leeds I’ve seen a few ups, but so many more downs!

If you could be anywhere other than here, right this minute, where would you be? 

Sat watching Leeds in the Premiership. Or Corfu town.

I started working for Mulberry in 2012 and my role has naturally developed over time. I initially started learning the ropes about asset finance, working with our existing customer base whilst reaching out to new businesses.

What do you do at Mulberry Asset Finance?

I started working for Mulberry in 2012 and my role has naturally developed over time. I initially started learning the ropes about asset finance, working with our existing customer base whilst reaching out to new businesses. I am based at our Middlesbrough office where I attend events and visit the fantastic businesses that we have in the region.  A large part of my role is now spent on the strategy and marketing, putting the things in place that we need in order to help more businesses!

What is the main issue that your clients have that you would like to fix?

Business owners are so busy managing the day-to-day running of their business, there’s very little time left to shop around for commercial finance. And with so much to consider, people understandably want to take the easy road. This could mean sticking with the same finance provider or perhaps even putting up with poor service simply to get the job done. I'd like to help businesses access the best possible finance whilst saving their time and money.

What do you think are the best skills that you bring to your job?

I’m experienced and knowledgeable in all aspects of asset finance across our industries. I can quickly identify what a customer needs and make recommendations as to which of our solutions will fit their requirements. I really enjoy problem-solving, building relationships and getting to know all aspects of a business.

What do you like about working at Mulberry Asset Finance?

I love the fact that no two days are the same! My role is so varied, I’m constantly developing my skills in all areas. The customers really are the stars of the show though and I love getting out to meet them! 

What are the values that drive you?

Integrity, kindness and a sense of community are close to my heart. I believe that by involving ourselves in the community we can all make a positive difference. So, it’s fantastic to have a job that helps small to medium-sized businesses thrive, as the wider community also benefits from their success!

What do you do at Mulberry Asset Finance?

I manage Mulberry Farming at our office within Junction 36 Rural Auction House, Crooklands. If I’m not at the office, I’m most likely out visiting clients at their premises or attending an auction. I am passionate about agriculture and want to help as many businesses as possible achieve their goals. I really get to know my clients and establish long lasting relationships with them, sourcing the best possible finance for agricultural and farming assets or finance solutions in order to grow their business.

What is the main issue that your clients have that you would like to fix?

I recognise that many businesses do not have the financial backing that they need in order to expand. I want to help these businesses find the best finance solutions in order to grow. Quite simply, I want to make farmers business ideas a reality.

What’s your background?

My interest in agriculture started from a young age growing up on a beef and sheep farm in the heart of the Ribble Valley. Leaving school, I had a huge interest in the equine industry so went on to study equine science at college, following this I went to work in sales at a well-known agricultural merchant working in the sales of animal health products. At the age of 19 my family decided to move to a new farm over at Bentham where we continued farming beef and sheep, this is where my passion for farming increased even more by being in the heart of the farming community!

I was approached to work at a Pedigree Livestock farm based in the Yorkshire Dales producing quality Beltex, Texel and Beef Shorthorn cattle which we ultimately took to the Pedigree Premier sales. It’s here I learnt and completed a great deal of AI and embryo work with both sheep and cattle. I also worked here with race horses and sports horses within the specialist equine therapy unit, swimming horses for rehabilitation and fitness.

I have a passion for the breeding of Pedigree Livestock and the showing industry, I even have my own Pedigree Flock of Beltex sheep which I started in 2012. I have singlehandedly bred and grown my Flock using my AI and Embryo skills, and I attend country shows every year where I show and sell my Beltex Flock. From this I have gone on to dress sheep for the top breeders within the industry and I even hold my own sheep dressing courses! I am also proud to be a committee member of the Northern Beltex Club which involves organising events and promoting the breed.

What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working?

When I'm not working, I fill my time showing Livestock at Agricultural Shows and looking after my own Flock of sheep. I have a huge interest in horse riding which I enjoy going out round the Yorkshire dales.  I am also a member of our local Netball and Football team which I take part in. I’m also passionate about Clay Pigeon Shooting!

Clients wish to spend their precious time focusing on day-to-day business operations with minimal down-time.  When it comes to seeking an external financial solution, it must be personable, hassle-free and easily accessible. Mulberry Finance prides itself on offering a personal service within the hospitality industry, understanding the specific needs of rural businesses operating locally in our close-knit communities who need to attract a regular and sustained flow of visitors and tourists to the area.

I’m a problem-solver and enjoy helping businesses to expand and improve through the solutions Mulberry Asset Finance provide.

We are a friendly, relaxed team, lucky enough to live in a beautiful part of the country whose businesses we naturally want to help grow and prosper.  This ‘local' focus at Mulberry makes it easy for us to share our combined passion for where we live to assist our neighbouring businesses to succeed and prosper - what more job satisfaction could you ask for? 

What are the values that drive you?

My family and friends are what drives me.  Also, an appreciation of the simpler things in life which make you happy.  For me living in Cumbria is key to this - the landscape, nature, the people and hard-working businesses who contribute to a vibrant economy up here make this a fantastic place to live. Supporting people and local businesses both in my free time and my profession makes for a wholesome, happy life - long may it continue!

What are you happiest doing, when you’re not working?

Walking the dog with my husband and daughter, eating out and admiring our spectacular views. 

If you could be anywhere other than here, right this minute, where would you be? 

Okay, the only thing missing from Cumbria is the weather (not counting the summer of 2018)… so sipping a Piña Colada on a lazy hammock somewhere in the Caribbean would do it for me - at least until I became homesick…  :-)
